VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) lets you make and receive phone calls over your broadband connection instead of a traditional copper landline. You can use a VoIP-enabled home phone handset, the 8x8 mobile app on your smartphone, or both – whichever suits you best.
Yes! We can transfer your current landline number to WicommsHome, so there's no need to update friends, family, or service providers with a new number. We handle the porting process for you.
Not necessarily. Most of our customers simply download the free mobile app on their smartphone and are up and running within minutes. No hardware, no waiting, no fuss.
If you'd prefer a traditional handset at home, we recommend the Yealink AX83H (£150 one-off). We configure it remotely, so it arrives ready to use straight out of the box.
Yes – WicommsHome runs over your internet connection, so a stable broadband service at home is required. If you already have broadband, you're good to go.
If your broadband is temporarily unavailable, you can still make and receive calls using the 8x8 mobile app over your mobile data connection. You can also set up call forwarding to your mobile number as a backup – we can configure this for you during setup.
None. WicommsHome is £12.00 per month inclusive of VAT, with no setup fee and no usage charges for UK calls. The only optional extras are a handset if you need one, and international call bundles if you regularly call overseas. That's it.
If you have a VoIP-enabled handset, it may be compatible with WicommsHome; please consult us beforehand.
If you have a traditional analogue handset, adaptors do exist to convert these, but we've made a deliberate decision not to support them. In our experience, adaptors introduce a layer of complexity that makes it much harder to diagnose problems quickly – and if something goes wrong, we want to be able to fix it fast. Offering a supported setup from the outset means we can do exactly that.
We offer international call bundles for customers who regularly call overseas. The options available depend on which countries you call most frequently. Get in touch and we'll put together the right bundle for your needs.
